Club & Fixtures Secretary

Joyce Washburn
Role: Club Secretary
Year Appointed: 1971
Year Joined BHC: 1968 (Banbury Ladies), 1998 (BHC)
Joyce's Bio:
"I have been playing hockey since 1958, starting at the age of 11 while at Chipping Norton Grammar School, and I first played senior hockey with Oxford-based Shamrock Ladies before moving to Banbury Ladies in 1968.
At that time, the club ran just one ladies team playing friendlies, and now the club runs five ladies and five men’s teams, all playing in leagues.
I had the honour of being elected captain in 1971, and also held the post of fixture secretary for the ladies, remaining in the post when we amalgamated with Banbury Men’s Hockey Club in 1998.
I later took responsibility for all the club’s fixtures, and I still hold this position, now handling arrangements for both men’s and ladies’ teams, including the booking of playing and training facilities for all 10 teams. I act as a liaison point with leagues, team captains and the umpiring secretary.
I continued as overall club secretary after the formation of the new club in 1998 and I am responsible for both external and internal communications. I liaise with both national and regional hockey bodies and the leagues, as well as arranging monthly committee meetings of club officers that are vital for the successful management of the club."
