U14 Girls go top in EH U14 Development League 3
15th February 2015
Banbury U14 Girls – 6 (Victoria Warlow 3, Maddie Hunt, Grace King and Imogen Roberts) Wrekin U14 Girls – 1,
Banbury dominated from the push back, with excellent link up play in the mid field and attacking half between Miranda Edwards, Grace King, Olivia Bruce & Vicky Warlow, resulting in a goal from Vicky Warlow. Helena Roberts and Rebecca Perkin were solid in defense, stopping the opposition’s breakaway attacks, leaving Banbury’s goal largely untroubled in the reliable hands of keeper Olivia Pigden, who swiftly dispatched of the rare threats to the Banbury goal. Just before halftime, Maddie Hunt struck a great goal from the right hand side of the D, making the half time score 2-0.
After a quick break at half time, Grace King slapped the ball into the corner of the goal, making it 3-0. With the help of great movement down the right side by Daisy Newton, Vicky Warlow scored twice more, flicking the ball through the keeper’s legs & then slamming the ball home. Our defense and mid field remained solid leading to Imogen Roberts scoring a fantastic goal. Towards the end of the game a long hit out from the Wrekin defense set up a strong goal against us. A solid well played game by the whole team contributed to a final winning score of 6-1.
Banbury U14 Girls – 2 (Grace King & Victoria Warlow), Old Silhillians -1
Our second game of the triangular fixture was against Old Silhillians. This was a very evenly matched and hard fought game, with possession going back & forth between the teams, both threatening each other’s defense, with Helena Roberts & Rebecca Perkin battling hard to block, intercept and gain possession of the ball. Hard work, persistence and excellent passing between the mid fielders and forwards led to a great goal by Grace King. Olivia Pigden made several fantastic saves, leaving her goal line to meet the ball, diving and clearing the ball out of the danger zone to keep Banbury in the game. With the team tiring, but still fighting to hold on to the ball, Old Sil’s clawed a goal back to make it 1-1 at half time.
In the second half Banbury gained greater possession as Miranda Edwards, Maddie Hunt and Daisy Newton made good use of the wings. Banbury continued to apply pressure on the Old Sil’s defence with Imogen Roberts determinedly working hard, with some fabulous movement, pressing forward in the D. Towards the end of the second half Banbury conceded a short corner, which was successfully intercepted by Vicky Warlow who took it the length of the pitch passing several Old Sil’s players & slid the ball past the goalie into the back of the goal. When the final whistle went, the end score was 2-1 to Banbury – a well deserved win for the exhausted players which puts us currently at the top of our table in the England Hockey 7 a-side Development League (League 3). WELL DONE GIRLS!!!
