On behalf of the men’s section may I welcome you to the 2018/19 season at Banbury Hockey Club.

We aim to provide you with a great club to enjoy hockey. We do our best to achieve this through our men’s 1st XI playing a high standard of hockey in the Southern Premier League Division, to sociable hockey in the mixed team (National Champions 2015), as well as all teams focussing on developing young players, so Banbury Hockey Club’s future is in safe hands. We welcome all new members, and whatever your age or ability, there is something for you at Banbury Hockey Club.

The club has great tradition and great pride in its DNA and our purpose as members is to maintain this pride and improve processes off the pitch in order to improve the standard and experience on the pitch.

Processes developed off the pitch

Indoor Hockey on a Monday night has been re-invigorated introducing promising youngsters (developed through our thriving junior section) to senior squads and providing quality gameplay endorsing the need for fine fundamentals to play the game.

3 Coaches are now in place for the men who train, this is an opportunity to say thank you to Gurdial, Andy and Phil who’s sessions are thought out and engaging, because of them, numbers at training have increased and average 55.

To provide the right experience for all, our 5th team has been re-introduced so there is also a place for the casual, entrance level player to play hockey at Banbury.

Recent success and future targets

The men’s 1st XI gained promotion back to the South Premier League last season and embark on finishing top 4 this season, to move into the National League. We have a new coach in place, new players and extra commitment from current members.

It is our ambition that all teams will be aiming for a top 4 finish, as well as trying to improve the playing experience of all members in their squad.

This year, we will be focussing on respecting our fellow members, coaches, umpires, bar staff and all those who make the experience great. We will always aim to win but will always look to host you and share a drink in the bar post game to make the whole experience of hockey at Banbury a pleasure to be a part of.

To all players, coaches, managers and umpires of the club may I wish you a successful and enjoyable season and for those reading this considering a new club or re-joining the club I look forward to hearing from you.
