Banbury 8 v 1 Buckingham
Spectators enjoyed an inspired performance by the Banbury Girls in the opening round of the EHA Under 15 Cup.
After a tentative first 5 minutes which allowed Buckingham to produce the initial threats of the game, Banbury settled into their positions and began to work together. Attacks down the left side of the pitch through Mel Wilkinson put pressure on the Buckingham defence to earn the team a short corner. Charlie Moran made no mistake with her first time strike, giving the keeper no chance to react.
The second goal came from a cross to the right post where Claire Gardner deflected it in. Zosia Skowronska added the 3rd just before half time with persistent pressure on the goal keeper.
Banbury came out for the second half with confidence and 2 goals came in quick succession - Caroline Ledger scoring from a short corner and then Jodie Sharkey's shot from the edge of the 'D' completely wrong footing the keeper, to make it 5 - 0.
Buckingham continued to compete and it relied on Banbury keeper, Suzi Pollock and Sweeper, Davina Miller to make some impressive defensive decisions.
After a further Banbury attack a penalty was awarded and Captain, Mel Wilkinson took her opportunity to get on the score sheet.
The final 10 minutes saw 2 tired teams continue to produce quality hockey and Banbury added 2 further goals by Moran and Gardner, whilst Buckingham finished the match with a conciliatory goal by Imogen Burn.
