Narrow loss by Piranhas against N&T
Newbury and Thatcham 4’s – 1 Banbury Piranhas – 0
This week the Piranhas were against top of the table Newbury & Thatcham 4’s who had scored 26 goals in their last two games so Banbury knew they were in for a tough match. The Piranhas fielded a slightly changed formation ensuring strength down the middle knowing Newbury and Thatcham would exploit any weaknesses in that area. The 1st half saw great discipline and defensive work by the Piranhas and although Newbury and Thatcham created a few chances, these were seen off by some good regulation saves by Banbury Keeper Phil Smith. The Piranhas turned defense into attack on a number of occasions and created a few half chances themselves, but both teams came in goalless at half time.
The 2nd half was a more even affair with the Piranhas playing great counter attack Hockey with Newbury and Thatcham running out of ideas as the 2nd half went on and the Piranhas looking the better side towards the end. The teams were divided, by a solitary goal 15 mins from time from a Newbury and Thatcham Penalty Corner that Banbury were unlucky not to have cleared. The final score 1 – 0 to the home team.
Newbury and Thatcham 4’s are clearly the standout team in MBBO7 this season and very proud of team’s performance and discipline against them. If the team can demonstrate this every week against all types of opposition, the Piranhas will definitely be a force to be reckoned with.
