Ladies 4 in encouraging performance with young side
TCL Div 4
Banbury Ladies 4s – 2 (Cath Page and Claire Condie) Newbury and Thatcham 3s – 3
Banbury looked to start 2015 on a positive note after recent good performances were not been rewarded with victories. Banbury made a strong start and were on the attack from the start, putting Newbury under pressure from some short corners. However, some good play by Newbury and Thatcham resulted in the opening goal. Despite this early set back, Banbury still pressed for an equaliser, forcing the opposition goalkeeper to make some good saves. Unfortunately Banbury were made to pay again after a quick Newbury break resulted in their second goal before half time.
Banbury’s fighting spirit showed in the second half as the team pegged Newbury back. Banbury created more opportunities, forcing the Newbury keeper to make some good saves. Persistent pressure finally paid off with Cath Page slotting home after some good interplay between the forwards. However, Banbury were not able to force an equaliser and Newbury scored a third goal. Banbury continued to pile on the pressure and managed to score a second goal through Claire Condie’s strike past the goalkeeper. However, an equalising goal was not to be found.
Despite the loss, it was an encouraging team performance to start the year, especially from the younger members of the team who are continuing to develop in their first season.
