Ladies 1st draw against Henley

  • November 13, 2011

Banbury Ladies 1st team started off well against second from bottom Henley. They dominated possession in the first 20 minutes of the game and were unlucky not to score in the that period. With some good defensive work Henley had very few opportunities in the attacking third of the pitch. A lapse in concentration from Banbury gifted Henley an opportunity to score which they took go 1-0 up. Shortly afterwards Banbury came back with an excellent strike from Sadie Lapper to equalise. Banbury were unlucky near the end of the first half to be denied a penalty flick for what appeared to be a shot stopped on the line by the foot of the Henley defence.

At the start of the second half both teams started strongly, but it was Henley who scored again to go 2-1 up. Banbury continued with the attacking play and created several good opportunities with Tasha Nunneley coming very close to equalising for Banbury. Banbury’s persistence paid off when they were awarded a penalty flick after the Henley Goalkeeper pushed Ali Sturla to the ground during attacking play. Sadie Lapper stepped up to the spot and coolly put the ball in the back of the net to equalise the score at 2-2. Banbury could not score the all important winner and had to settle for a one point draw.
