Blazing Banbury Breeze through Bicester with a Fab Five-Goal Flourish
Bicester Ladies 2s 1, Banbury Ladies 3s 5
5th March 2016, Cooper School, Bicester
Another great week for Banbury Ladies 3s away from home against local rivals Bicester. Still hot on the heels of Hawks, Banbury have kept up the momentum with another 3 points.
Banbury were first to break through with 2 short corner goals from captain Becky Kirwan-Lee and Charlotte Micallef, followed up by a third Banbury goal slotted home by Maddy Hunt just before half time. Shortly into the second half Bicester broke through and earned themselves a short corner which they converted, scoring their only goal of the match with a musical back drop from their portable boom box. Shortly afterwards, the umpire allowed one of the Banbury team a two minute rest after she politely questioned the use of some extremely unladylike language by one of the Bicester, so called, “Ladies”.
Whilst down to 10 players, a rousing cry by Sian of “who wants a goal Banbury?” spurred Hailey Mitchell on, and in answer, she carved through the Bicester defence to put in a great cross, which Sophie Hills connected with, putting the ball into the back of the net and silencing the Bicester crowd and their blaster. A final flurry from Banbury, generated by the return to the pitch of a very fired up and rested 11th player, saw Hunt score her second goal of the match giving Banbury a conclusive 5-1 victory.
Banbury are away this Saturday to Henley Ladies.
Banbury goal scorers: Becky Kirwan-Lee, Charlotte Micallef, Maddy Hunt x 2, Sophie Hills
