Banbury Ladies 1st XI faced a hard opening game to the season away against London Wayfarers.
Missing several experienced players, Banbury started strongly, but, were soon caught on the counter attack leading to Wayferers first goal despite the best efforts of defensive line Becca Edwards, Kristina Bull and Lotty Dee-Andrews.
Banbury snatched an equaliser through some nice team play starting with new recruit Emily Hogg and finished through new Australian signing Nicola Brown.
Wayferers quickly responded with another break away goal meaning that they went into half time leading 2-1.
Wayferers started the second half strongly taking there lead to 3-1. Not to be disheartened, some good link up play from Lyndsey White and Jenny Marsh lead to a short corner for Banbury which was converted by Natasha Nunneley making the score 3-2.
Banbury pushed for the equaliser, but, were again caught by a quick break by Wayferers leaving the final score 4-2.
Despite the loss, Banbury showed the depth of their squad by putting on a fantastic effort against a very strong team with several 1st XI players left to fight for their places back in the team ahead of their first home league game on Saturday. Something that will prove invaluable for the long season ahead.
